This website is run by the Royal Ballet and Opera. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means everyone should be able to:

What we’re doing to improve accessibility 

The Royal Ballet and Opera is committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with accessibility standards, to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard by 2027.  

To improve digital accessibility and inclusivity on this website, we are 

  • Removing barriers to accessibility in our existing products, starting with key functions such as purchasing tickets 
  • Building all new products in accordance with accessibility standards 
  • Engaging with customers with diverse accessibility requirements and customers who use a range of assistive technologies to inform improvements to existing and new products 

Our current status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. 

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible.

Making a purchase 
  • It is not possible to navigate our seatmap when using any assistive technologies, including screen readers, keyboard navigation and screen magnification.  ‘Help me find a seat’ provides an accessible, alternative route to select a seat.
  • There is no option to turn off or extend the 30 minute time limit in the basket.
Navigating the website 
  • It is not possible to access the navigation menu when magnifying the screen above 150% and using the keyboard to navigate this website. 
  • Icons in the main navigation are missing alt text and are not announced correctly when using a screen reader. This includes Search, Basket, and Account.

  • The navigation menu does not announce as a link when using a screen reader on mobile.  
  • The button to close the navigation menu is not focusable when using a screen reader on mobile. 
  • Headings are not structured in a logical hierarchy in the code. This means the organisation of most pages on this website will not be clear when using a screen reader. 
  • It is not possible to navigate carousels showing multiple items in a horizontal format on this website when using screen reader on desktop or when magnifying the screen above 250%. 
  • Some collapsible content is not identified when using a screen reader. This includes information within the main navigation menus and approximate running times and guidance on Production information pages. 
  • There is no ‘skip to main content’ link to bypass the main navigation menu and header. 
  • The language of the page is not specified in the code. Almost all text on this website is in English except for certain names of people and Productions. 
  • PDFs on this website cannot be easily navigated using assistive technologies, including screen magnification, keyboard navigation, and screen readers. This includes some cast sheets and policies. 
  • It is not possible to filter the A-Z library on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream when using a keyboard and/or screen reader to navigate this website. 
  • There is no audible confirmation that selecting 'Add to my list' or 'Remove from my list' on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream was successful when using a screen reader to navigate this website. 
Non-text content 
  • Some images, icons, and links may be missing alt text on this website.  
  • Video subtitles do not include any references to audio which is not dialogue or singing, for example changes in music. 
  • Most video content does not have audio description or text transcript available.
