Details of the BBC's Christmas 2019 TV schedule have been announced, with a number of Royal Ballet-related programming included.

Christmas Day will offer a chance to watch Dancing The Nutcracker: Inside The Royal Ballet. The documentary will be broadcast on BBC Two at midday and follows Principal dancer Francesca Hayward's preparations for The Royal Ballet's festive classic. The Nutcracker will be in cinemas around the world from 17 December.

Essential Royal Ballet, a documentary exploring the history of the Company, will be broadcast at 7pm on 29 December on BBC Four. Presented by Katie Derham, the programme introduces a spectacular selection of highlights from an incredible past decade at The Royal Ballet.

Following a limited cinema release, Romeo and Juliet: Beyond Words will be broadcast on BBC Two on New Year's Day at 5.30pm. A film by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, Romeo and Juliet: Beyond Words sees Kenneth MacMillan's ballet adapted for the screen. Filmed on location, it stars William Bracewell and Francesca Hayward as the star-crossed lovers.

All programmes will be available to watch on-demand after broadcast via BBC iPlayer.
