Your Reaction: What did you think of Beethoven's Fidelio?
Audience and press reviews of The Royal Opera's production, directed by Tobias Kratzer and starring Jonas Kaufmann and Lise Davidsen.
Lise Davidsen as Leonore in #ROHFidelio was so good that one almost didn’t notice how good she was, with Beethoven’s normally strenuous vocal lines dispatched with seemingly effortless elan. She was also a committed and convincing physical actor by turns tender and desperate.

I enjoyed #rohfidelio today. I didn’t agree with the booing (it’s v entitled). @LiseDavidsen was an absolute star, in stunning voice. Jonas Kaufmann under the weather but still produced magic.

#ROHFidelio delivers a triumphant performance from @LiseDavidsen in her first starring role @TheRoyalOpera, the usual goosebumps from ROH chorus, and an under-the-weather Jonas Kaufmann (but I’ll take @tenorkaufmann at 80% than anyone else at 100%). The production is a mixed bag.

Splendid #ROHFidelio. Lise Davidsen well on her way to being an all time great. Great work from Pappano, the orchestra, singers and chorus. I appreciated the production as an innovative and authentic effort on a problematic piece, but didn’t agree with all the choices.

The wonderful voice of @LiseDavidsen carried #ROHfidelio. Great dramatic production but the videos were distracting. Wonderful finale as the chorus stepped into the light.

I was following act 1 of the new production of #ROHFidelio very well but totally got confused in act 2.

Enjoyed the music and singing throughout, though.
