Biography

British Bass Alasdair Miles has appeared regularly with UK opera companies, including The Royal Opera, English National Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Grange Park Opera, Opera North, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera. Engagements elsewhere have included performances at Theater an der Wien, Vienna State Opera, Paris Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, La Scala, Milan, Dutch National Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid, Zurich Opera and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as the Salzburg Festival. He has made over ninety recordings with conductors including Ivor Bolton, Martyn Brabbins, Colin Davis, Mark Elder, John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Charles Mackerras, Riccardo Muti, Trevor Pinnock, Simon Rattle and Robin Ticciati. Awards include The Decca Prize at The Kathleen Ferrier Awards and a 2024 Santley Award from The Worshipful Company of Musicians. Previous roles for The Royal Opera include Cardinal Brogni (La Juive, in concert), Jorg (Stiffelio), Poliferno (Niobe, regina di Tebe), Des Grieux (Manon) and Le Bailli (Werther).
