British-German conductor Alexander Joel studied French and English Law at King’s College London, before moving to Vienna to study at the Academy of Music, and later the Vienna Conservatory of Music. He made his debut with The Royal Opera in the 2012/13 Season, and has since returned for Carmen, La traviata, La bohème (twice), Rigoletto and Tosca. Since 2001, he has been a regular guest conductor at European houses, including at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Vlaamse Opera, Staatsoper Hamburg, Opéra National de Lyon, Royal Swedish Opera, Malmö Opera, Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Zurich Opera and Geneva Opera. His 2024/25 Season engagements include Il trittico (Welsh National Opera), his Israeli Opera debut conducting Mariusz Treliński’s new production of Peter Grimes, his Staatstheater Mannheim debut conducting Parsifal and returns to Japan on tour with the Symphony Orchester der Wiener Volksoper, to Malmö for Rodula Gaitanou’s new production of La bohème and to Staatsoper Hamburg for Così fan tutte.
