Biography

Born in Taunton, Somerset, Alison Kettlewell trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and on the Royal College of Music opera course. She was a winner of the AsLiCo Competition for Young Opera Singers of Europe and a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards. Roles include Madame Larina (Eugene Onegin) for Scottish Opera; La Frugola (Il trittico) for Welsh National Opera; Little Buttercup (HMS Pinafore) for English National Opera; Venus (Tannhäuser), Fricka and Waltraute (Der Ring des Nibelungen) for Longborough Festival Opera; Charlotte (Werther), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Secretary (The Consul) for Opera Holland Park; Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Mercédès (Carmen) for Raymond Gubbay; Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) in Como, Pisa and Lucca; Diamantina (L’isola di Merlino) in Cremona, Mantova and Brescia; Dorisbe (Gustavo il re di Svezia) for the Montepulciano Festival. Contemporary opera roles include Matilda and George (Errollyn Wallen’s Cautionary Tales) for Opera North; and Mother (Roderick Watkins’ The Juniper Tree) for Almeida Opera and the Munich Biennale.
