Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s is one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music today. Her music is widely performed internationally and has been commissioned by many of the world’s leading organisations including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Danish String Quartet, BBC Proms, and Carnegie Hall. She has garnered many awards from the New York Philharmonic, Lincoln Center, the Nordic Council, and the Ivors Academy. UK performances this season include the Hallé Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, and the Danish String Quartet. Thorvaldsdottir is featured composer at this year’s Aldeburgh Festival, which includes the UK premiere of her symphony-scale work AIŌN. She is currently based in the London area.
