Biography

German dramaturg Bettina Bartz graduated in theatre sciences from Humboldt University in Berlin in 1983. She was Chief Dramaturg at the Brandenburg Theatre from 1998-2000 and Chief Dramaturg at the Leipzig Opera House from 2008-2010. She has worked regularly with directors Peter Konwitschny and Tobias Kratzer on productions in Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Munich, Frankfurt, Bern, Lucerne, Lyon, Vienna, Graz, Copenhagen, Antwerp, Amsterdam and the inclusive theatre group RambaZamba Berlin. Alongside her dramaturgical work, she teaches and mentors young creative teams in a variety of settings, from universities to privately-sponsored emerging artists programmes. In addition, she has written scripts for radio and children’s plays, and has written German-language translations of operas by Mozart, Verdi, Handel, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Dvořák, Sullivan and Bizet, often in collaboration with Werner Hintze. In 2014 she was awarded the Arts Prize of the Berlin Academy of the Arts (Performing Arts category).
