Biography

British mezzo-soprano Claire Barnett-Jones studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Royal Academy Opera and Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She is a former member of the English National Opera Harewood Artist Programme (2019–22), where she was a recipient of the Sir John Tomlinson Fellowship, and was an Independent Opera Fellow and Samling Artist. She was also a Finalist and Winner of the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2021. Recent highlights include Waltraute (Götterdämmerung) at the Bayreuth Festival and Longborough Festival Opera and her French debut as Ježibaba (Rusalka) at Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse. Engagements for 2024/25 include a return to Dutch National Opera as Mrs Sedley in Barbora Horáková Joly’s new production of Peter Grimes, her Bayerische Staatsoper debut as Die Frau Försterin/Eule (The Cunning Little Vixen), a return to the Bayreuth Festival as Waltraute (Die Walküre) and Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer at the Wigmore Hall.
