First Soloist of The Royal Ballet

Biography

English dancer Claire Calvert is a First Soloist of The Royal Ballet. She trained at The Royal Ballet School and graduated into the Company in 2007, promoted to First Artist in 2010, Soloist in 2012 and First Soloist in 2016. 

Calvert was born in Bath and began dancing aged three. She joined The Royal Ballet Lower School aged 11 and in her graduation year danced lead roles in Raymonda Act III and Jabula. Calvert made her Principal role debut as the Lilac Fairy (The Sleeping Beauty) while still an Artist in 2009. Other roles include Odette/Odile (Swan Lake), Hermione (The Winter’s Tale), Sugar Plum Fairy and Rose Fairy (The Nutcracker), Gamzatti (La Bayadère), Mother/Queen of Hearts (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland), Olga (Winter Dreams), Tsarevna (The Firebird), Gypsy Girl (The Two Pigeons), Hermia (The Dream), Myrtha and Zulme (Giselle), Mitzi Caspar (Mayerling), Olga (Anastasia), Harlot (Romeo and Juliet), Winter Fairy (Cinderella), Lescaut’s Mistress (Manon), Mercedes (Don Quixote), Calliope (Apollo), Rosaura (Like Water for Chocolate), the third movement of Concerto and in The Human SeasonsAeternumAfter the RainCarbon LifeOptional Family: A Divertissement and The Dying Swan

She has created roles in works including Aeternum and Charlotte Edmonds’s dance film The Indifferent Beak (Deloitte Ignite 14).
