Artist of The Royal Ballet

Biography

Brazilian dancer Denilson Almeida, joined The Royal Ballet’s Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme for the 2020/21 Season and became an Artist with the Company in 2022/23.

He began training at the Petite Danse School in Rio de Janeiro at age 10 and was awarded the Rudolf Nureyev Artistic Prize at the 2017 Prix de Lausanne, which earned him a scholarship to The Royal Ballet School.

At The Royal Ballet School, Almeida received multiple accolades, including The Ballet Association Prize and the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Award for progress in classical ballet. He performed in various productions with the school and The Royal Ballet. While a student he danced with The Royal Ballet on stage in MacMillan’s Manon, Cranko’s Onegin as well as The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. He also featured in the 2021 Meet the Young Dancers Insight streamed online.

With the Company, his roles include Anemoi, Kyle Abraham's The Weathering, alongside other numerous corps roles. He has created roles in Joshua Junker's Never Known and in Untitled, 2023.
