Diana Damrau

Biography

Born in Germany, Diana Damrau studied at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg and with Hannah Ludwig in Salzburg. She was Operawelt’s Young Singer of the Year in 1999 and has since appeared at many leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the State Operas of Munich, Berlin, Zurich and Vienna, La Scala Milan and in Dresden. Her operatic repertory includes leading and title roles in Maria Stuarda, Anna Bolena, Le nozze di Figaro and Capriccio as well as in I masnadieri, Roméo et Juliette, Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon, La traviata and Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute). In 2025 she will make her role debuts as the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier) at Berlin State Opera and as Arabella at Opera Zurich. On the concert platform, she has performed regularly with conductors including Pappano, Kirill Petrenko, Thielemann, Mehta, Muti, Boulez and Maazel. Previous roles for the Royal Opera: Lucia di Lammermoor, Manon, Violetta Valéry, Queen of the Night.
