Franck Evin was born in Nantes. At 19, he became interested in piano, before taking an interest in lighting design. Awarded a grant by the French Ministry of Culture, he joined Opera Lyon as chief electrician assistant, working with Ken Russell and Robert Wilson. He later worked in Düsseldorf, Nantes, Strasburg, Montpellier, Paris, Lyon, Vienna, Bonn, Brussels and Los Angeles. Since the 1995/1996 Season, he has been artistic director for lighting at the Komische Oper Berlin. He has worked regularly with Andreas Homoki, Barrie Kosky, Calixto Bieito and Hans Neuenfels, on stages across Copenhagen, Stockholm, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Munich and Graz, as well as at La Monaie, Paris Opera (Boris Godunov, Lear), La Scala, La Fenice, Flemish Opera, Bayreuth Festival (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and Salzburg Festival (Orpheus in the Underworld). In 2012, Evin was nominated as lighting manager at Zurich Opera. In 2006, he was awarded an OPUS for his work on Peter Konwinchny’s Così fan tutte and in 2010, was featured in the TV show Die Theatermacher on ZDF Theaterkanal.
