Italian dancer Giacomo Rovero is a Soloist of The Royal Ballet. He joined The Royal Ballet’s Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme from the start of the 2016/17 Season, and entered the Company as an Artist from the start of the 2017/18 Season, promoted to First Artist in 2022 and Soloist in 2024. He trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School.
Rovero was born in Piacenza. He trained locally at the Accademia di Danza Domenichino da Piacenza with Giuseppina Campolonghi, Michela Arcelli and Elisabetta Rossi. Early awards include gold medal at the 2011 Youth America Grand Prix. He went on to train with Christian Schön at the School of the Hamburg Ballet before studying at The Royal Ballet Upper School 2013–16. While a student Rovero’s roles at the School’s annual matinees included in Liam Scarlett’s Classical Symphony, Kenneth MacMillan’s Soirées musicales and Stijn Celis’s Vertigo Maze, in addition to performances with The Royal Ballet in Scarlett’s Frankenstein.
Roles with The Royal Ballet have included in Florestan (The Sleeping Beauty), Benno (Swan Lake), Hans-Peter/ The Nutcracker (The Nutcracker), pas de six (Giselle), lead roles in Danses concertantes and roles in Anemoi, The Dante Project, Scènes de ballet, The Weathering, Like Water for Chocolate and Symphonic Dances. His role creations with the Company have included Joshua Junker's Never Known, Jessica Lang's Twinkle, Untitled, 2023 and Secret Things as well as Robert Binet’s Void and Fire and Kyle Abraham's Optional Family: A Divertissement.
