Biography

Born in Italy, Giacomo Sagripanti studied piano, composition and orchestral conducting. He is currently Music Director of the Tbilisi Opera House. In 2016 he won Best Young Conductor Award at the International Opera Awards. His recent opera appearances include La traviata and Rigoletto (Paris Opera), Moïse et Pharaon (Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro), Lucia di Lammermoor and Tosca (Liceu, Barcelona), La Cenerentola, Werther and Tosca (Vienna State Opera) and Il turco in Italia (Teatro Real, Madrid). Forthcoming engagements include Il barbiere di Siviglia (Metropolitan Opera), La bohème and La traviata (Liceu, Barcelona), Rusalka (Capitole de Toulouse), La bohème (Vienna State Opera). Concert engagements include Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 and No. 4 (Seville, Tbilisi) and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 (Philharmonie de Paris). His previous appointments with The Royal Opera include La traviata and Don Pasquale.
