Born in Lithuania, Giedrė Šlekytė studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz, the Academy of Music and Theatre, Leipzig and the Zurich University of Arts. From 2016–18, she was Principal Conductor of Stadttheater Klagenfurt. Elsewhere she has appeared with Bayerische Staatsoper, Zurich Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and Semperoper Dresden, as well as with Wiener Symphoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Tokyo Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Netherlands Philharmonic and Swedish Radio. Notable appearances include new productions of The Cunning Little Vixen (Musiktheater an der Wien), Kát’a Kabanová (Komische Oper Berlin), Ariadne auf Naxos (Royal Danish Opera), Rusalka (Opera Ballett Vlaanderen) and Dialogues des Carmélites (Oper Frankfurt). Engagements for 2024/25 include her Vienna State Opera debut conducting La bohème, returns to Musiktheater an der Wien for a new production of Das Paradies und die Peri and Staatsoper Berlin for The Pearl Fishers and Sacre and her Dallas Symphony (US debut), Philharmonia London and Tokyo NHK Symphony debuts. She makes her debut with The Royal Opera in the 2024/25 Season with Hansel and Gretel.
