Hazel Gould is a writer, director and workshop leader who specialises in the creation of new opera. At the core of all of Gould’s work is her belief that art has the power to change and enhance lives. Over her 25-year career, she has worked with thousands of diverse participants both in the UK and internationally to explore and create art. As a librettist, her work has been performed by Glyndebourne, Garsington Opera, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Streetwise Opera, English National Opera, The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and Gothenburg Opera. In 2024, her adaptation of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen was performed by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, her chamber opera Faultlines (composed by Luke Styles) was premiered by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and a new song cycle Across The Whinny Moor (composed by John Barber) premiered at the Rydale Festival. Gould regularly runs songwriting and co-creation projects with performers and participants of all backgrounds, including schools, prisons and care homes.
