James Large

British dancer James Large joined The Royal Ballet’s Aud Jebsen Young Dancers Programme from the start of the 2020/21 Season and entered the Company as an Artist in the 2022/23 Season. 

Born in Tunbridge Wells, Large began his training at the Southborough School of Dance before joining The Royal Ballet Lower and Upper School. While a student, he was awarded the Valerie Adams Award for Exceptional Musicality and the Kenneth MacMillan Choreographic Award (both in 2017). He was selected to further develop his choreography as part of the Ursula Moreton Emerging Choreographer programme for a performance in 2019. 

With The Royal Ballet School, he danced in Marriott’s Simple Symphony, Andrew McNicol’s Sea Interludes, Scarlett’s The Cunning Little Vixen, and Larina Waltz by Ashley Page at the Prix De Lausanne Interludes 2020. While a student he danced with The Royal Ballet on stage as Fritz in The Nutcracker and in Manon, Coppélia, The Sleeping Beauty, Onegin, Swan Lake, and with Birmingham Royal Ballet in The Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall. For the Company his roles include Chinese Dance (The Nutcracker), and roles in Anemoi. He has created roles in Gemma Bond's Boundless and Joshua Junker's Never Known.
