Biography

Irish bass John Morrissey is a member of the Royal Opera Chorus, which he joined in 2005. His solo roles for The Royal Opera have included Gaoler (Tosca), Citizen (La Juive) and a member of Baron Ochs’s retinue (Der Rosenkavalier). 

Morrissey was born in Ireland and raised in Birmingham. He originally trained as an actor, going on to study singing with David Mason and Bernard Dickerson and with Robert Dean. He has sung for companies including Opera Ireland, Scottish Opera and Wexford Festival Opera, in such roles as Colline (La bohème), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte). 

Morrissey’s discography includes Tosca on DVD (The Royal Opera).
