Biography

Russian soprano Kristina Mkhitaryan made her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Micaëla (Carmen), a role in which she returned in the 2018/19 Season. In the 2019/20 Season she sang Violetta Valéry (La traviata).

Kristina Mkhitaryan studied at the Galina Vishnevskaya Theatre Studio in Moscow and at the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music. She was a member of the Bolshoi Theatre’s Young Artist Programme (2012–2015). She won First Prize at the Queen Sonja International Competition (2013), Third Prize at the Neue Stimmen Competition (2013) and Second Prize at the Operalia competition (2017). Recent opera appearances include Tatyana in Eugene Onegin (Liceu, Barcelona), Musetta in La bohème (Metropolitan Opera) and Liù in Turandot, Adina in L’elisir d’Amore and Micaëla in Carmen (Vienna State Opera). 2024/25 Season engagements include Soprano Soloist in The Bells with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Massenet’s Manon for Vienna State Opera, Tatyana for Teatro Real, Madrid and her role debut as Mimì (La bohème) for the Metropolitan Opera.
