Biography

 

A British violinist, he was a Chorister in the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, and a Scholar at Chetham’s School of Music and The Royal Northern College of Music. A past member of both the Navarra String Quartet and the Aronowitz Ensemble, he has been a recipient of two Borletti-Buitoni Trust Awards and a place on BBC Radio 3ʼs New Generation Artists Scheme. Aside from his dedication to chamber music, Johnston is in demand as Guest Leader and Principal of orchestras including the Philharmonia, English National Opera, Britten Sinfonia,The  Hallé, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and the Scottish and Australian Chamber Orchestras. He was appointed Concert Master of the Royal Ballet and Opera in 2023.
