Brought up in Denmark, Marianne Cotterill studied French at Copenhagen University and singing at the RCM. Between 1999 and 2002 she covered principal roles for Glyndebourne Festival. She joined the Royal Opera Chorus in 2004, and has appeared as a soloist in Elektra, Turandot, Tannhäuser, Anna Nicole, Manon, Suor Angelica, L’Étoile, Lohengrin, The Nose, Jenůfa and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. She has also covered many roles including Esmeralda (The Bartered Bride), Chloë (The Queen of Spades), Gerhilde (Die Walküre), Fourth Maid (Elektra), Pale Lady (The Gambler), Female Convict (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Javotte (Manon) and Lady-in-Waiting (Macbeth). She has appeared for the Royal Opera House’s Insight Events, singing extracts from roles including Violetta, Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), Cio-Cio-San, Mimì and Tosca. Recent concert engagements include Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder (St Albans Abbey), Haydn’s Ave Regina Coelorum and Mahler’s Symphony no.4.
