Artist of The Royal Ballet

Biography

Spanish dancer Martin Diaz is an Artist of The Royal Ballet. He joined The Royal Ballet as an Aud Jebsen Young Dancer in the 2022/2023 Season and was promoted to Artist of The Royal Ballet in 2023.

Diaz was born in Bilbao, Spain and began his ballet studies at the age of seven. His early training took place at the Escuela de danza Igor Yebra (2010-2017) and the Mariemma Conservatory in Madrid (2017-2018). During his time in Madrid he attended the World Dance Fair competition and International dance competition in Torrelavega where he was awarded First prize. In 2018 he joined The Royal Ballet School at White Lodge. Whilst at the Upper School he was awarded a prize in the Lynn Seymour Competition for Expressive Dance and in 2022 graduated from The Royal Ballet School. 

As a student he performed the Nutcracker Prince in The Nutcracker, Ocean and Pearls, Walpurgis Night as well as others. Whilst at The Royal Ballet School, Diaz participated in YCA competition at the Prix de Lausanne 2022, performing a solo choreographed by his classmate Jessica Templeton. 

In his graduate year he performed the lead role in Raymonda as Jean de Brienne as well as in John Neumeier’s Yondering and Wayne McGregor’s Presentient.

With the company, his roles include Anemoi. He has created roles in Robert Binet's Dark with Excessive Bright.
