Biography

Estonian mezzo-soprano Monika-Evelin Liiv is a former Jette Parker Artist (2007–09). Her Royal Opera roles have included Emilia (Otello), Madame Popova (The Bear), Flora Bervoix (La traviata), Second Lady (The Magic Flute), Mercédès (Carmen), Second Maid (Elektra), Ines (Il trovatore) and Gallery Owner (Lulu). Recent engagements include Azucena (Il trovatore) for Estonian National Opera, Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana) and Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) for Opera de Baugé, Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle) for Lithuanian National Opera, Federica (Luisa Miller in concert) for Latvian National Opera and Third Maid (Elektra) for Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Her prizes include the Estonian Theatre Award for outstanding performance and the Estonian Cultural Endowment Award. Engagements for 2024/25 include Verdi’s Requiem (Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra), Faust et Hélène (London City Orchestra) and Eboli in Don Carlo (Opéra de Baugé).
