British director Natalie Abrahami made her Royal Opera debut in the 2013/14 Season directing How the Whale Became in the Linbury Studio Theatre. She returned in the 2019/20 Season to direct The Turn of the Screw in the new Linbury Theatre.
Abrahami read English at Christ’s College, Cambridge University, and trained at the Young Vic and the National Theatre. She was Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre, Notting Hill (2007–12) and Associate Director at the Young Vic (2013–16). She has also been Associate Artist at the Nuffield Theatre and at Hull Truck. Her theatre directing credits include ANNA (National Theatre), The Meeting (Chichester Festival Theatre), Machinal (Almeida), Wings, Happy Days, After Miss Julie and Ah, Wilderness! (Young Vic), Queen Anne (Royal Shakespeare Company and Theatre Royal Haymarket), The Eleventh Capital (Royal Court), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Headlong), Pericles (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), Yerma (Hull Truck) and Play and Not I (Battersea Arts Centre). Her productions at the Gate Theatre include Vanya and The Kreutzer Sonata (which later transferred to La MaMa, New York).
Abrahami’s film credits include Mayday, The Roof and Life’s a Pitch. She is a recipient of the James Menzies-Kitchin Award for Directors.
