Paul was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) in 2017 at aged 57 and lost his voice in 2020. His bucket list included climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and playing tennis at the summit and climbing Mt Blanc and the Matterhorn. More recently he has done a bungee jump, water-ski and skydive despite being disabled in a wheelchair. Paul has raised nearly £200,000 for research into finding a treatment for MND, and in 2022, was awarded a British Empire Medal for charitable services. In 2019, Paul set up a business called Aura.life, which provides people with a better end of life experience, and also arranges simple, no-fuss and low-cost funerals. Aura is now the fastest growing funeral business in the UK. Paul lives in Godalming with his wife Jess and three children, David (31), Jo (28) and Rosie (26), not forgetting two collie-labrador dogs.
