Manchester-born baritone Peter Brathwaite trained at the Royal College of Music International Opera School and Operastudio Vlaanderen, Ghent. A frequent interpreter of contemporary opera, he has given world premieres at La Monnaie, Brussels, the Munich Biennale, Nederlandse Reisopera, Danish National Opera, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and Philharmonie Luxembourg. Roles elsewhere in Europe include engagements at the Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra national de Lorraine, Théâtre de Caen and Opéra de Lyon. Previous engagements for The Royal Opera include Narrator (Wolf Witch Giant Fairy), Insurrection, Martin Carter (The Knife of Dawn) and The Lost Thing. Additional UK engagements include roles with English National Opera, Opera North, English Touring Opera and Glyndebourne Tour. Engagements for 2024/25 include The Time of Our Singing (La Monnaie, Brussels) and The Little Lives (New Opera Days Ostrava). He presents for BBC Radio 3, and his book, Rediscovering Black Portraiture, was published by Getty.
