Shout at Cancer

Choir

Biography

Shout at Cancer is the world’s only charity focused on speech recovery and social reintegration after laryngectomy (voice box removal), using innovative techniques such as singing, acting, and beatboxing. The organisation has received prestigious awards, including The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (2021) and the British Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award (2017). Their laryngectomy choir raises awareness about the psychological and social impact of the surgery through public performances at renowned venues like Bozar (Brussels), the Belgian Embassy (London), The Barbican (London), and the V&A (London), among others. By performing at these events and gaining extensive media coverage on platforms such as BBC World, NPR, and The Guardian, Shout at Cancer has been able to share its inspirational work with both the laryngectomy community and the general public. This has helped shine a spotlight on a previously overlooked group, encouraging greater understanding and research in this area.
