Simon Iorio

He trained and performed as a singer before switching to opera directing. Directing credits include Howard Moody’s Agreed (Glyndebourne, Young Audiences Music Award for ‘Best Participatory Project with young audiences’), L’incoronazione di Poppea (Hampstead Garden Opera, nominated for an Off West End Award), Push (Battle Festival in association with Glyndebourne), Orpheus in the Underworld (Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Blackheath Halls) and Così fan tutte (Royal Academy Opera). He has been associate and revival director for productions at Glyndebourne, ROH and Lyric Opera of Chicago, and has assisted directors including Richard Jones, David McVicar, Laurent Pelly and Keith Warner, Adele Thomas for companies including The Royal Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid, Glyndebourne (Festival and on Tour) and La Scala, Milan. He is a full-time Staff Director at the Royal Opera House, and in the 2024/25 Season assisted Ted Huffman on the new production of Eugene Onegin.
