Japanese dancer Sumina Sasaki is a First Artist of The Royal Ballet. Sasaki joined The Royal Ballet as a Prix de Lausanne apprentice from the start of the 2019/20 Season and was promoted to Artist, 2020 and First Artist, 2024.
Sasaki was born in Osaka, Japan and began her training at the age of three. She trained at Michiko Sasaki Ballet, and Zurich Dance Academy. She won the second prize at the Tanzolymp in 2017. She won the third prize and Best Swiss Candidate Prize at the Prix de Lausanne in 2019.
Professional engagements whilst a student have included in La Esmeralda and in Grand Pas Classique. Her repertory while at the Company includes Queen of the Dryads (Don Quixote), Spanish (Swan Lake), Mayerling and Anemoi. She has created roles in Jessica Lang's Twinkle and Wayne McGregor's Untitled, 2023.
