Join composer Oliver Leith and librettist/co-director Matt Copson in discussion of their acclaimed opera Last Days, which returns to the Linbury Theatre following a sold-out run.

A performer sits on a bent mattress on the floor wearing a fake fur coat, baseball cap and white rimmed cat-eye style sunglasses. Next to them is a white plastic garden chair and above them the a small square of ceiling appears to be made from corrugated plastic. The stage is lit with pink lighting but golden lighting shines up from the performer making them appear to be in bright yellow light.

Composer Oliver Leith and librettist/co-director Matt Copson reflect on their opera Last Days, based on Gus Van Sant's 2005 film.

Background

Adapted from Gus Van Sant’s 2005 film loosely based on the final days of grunge icon Kurt Cobain, Last Days is an introspective meditation on the silent torment and alienation that created a modern myth. Don't miss composer Oliver Leith and librettist/co-director Matt Copson in conversation, as they discuss the return of their contemporary opera.
